The District of Columbia Judicial Nomination Commission (JNC) solicits, screens, and recommends a panel of three candidates to the President of the United States for each judicial vacancy on the District of Columbia Court of Appeals and the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. The President selects a nominee for each vacancy from the panel of names recommended by the Commission and submits the name of the nominee to the United States Senate for confirmation within established statutory time frames. The Commission also appoints the Chief Judges of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals and the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
