Aram A. Gavoor

Aram A. Gavoor, Esq., is a career attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice, currently serving as Senior Counsel for National Security/Senior Litigation Counsel in the Civil Division. He also serves in various academic roles at The George Washington University Law School. Within the Department of Justice and during his time in private practice, he has litigated over one hundred federal district court cases and appeals, involving high-profile constitutional, statutory, and regulatory challenges. He has litigated cases before thirty of the ninety-four United States District Courts and argued appeals before a majority of the United States Courts of Appeals. As a result of his recent accomplishments within the Department of Justice, he was awarded The Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service in 2019, and The Civil Division Special Commendation Award in 2018 and 2019.

Mr. Gavoor is also a nationally recognized scholar. He teaches courses in administrative law, federal courts, and national security law at The George Washington University Law School as a Professorial Lecturer of Law or Visiting Associate Professor of Law. He received the law school’s Distinguished Adjunct Faculty Teaching Award in 2017 and 2020. His scholarship has been published by and cited in numerous prestigious law journals. His co-authored article, Administrative Records and the Courts, was cited twice by the Supreme Court of the United States in Department of Commerce v. New York (2019).

Mr. Gavoor earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, his Juris Doctor degree from The George Washington University Law School, and his Master of Laws degree from the Georgetown University Law Center.
