Ayesha N. Khan

Ayesha N. Khan, Esq., has served as counsel to a party or an amicus curiae in more than thirty-five cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, over one hundred state and federal appeals, and scores of trial proceedings. She currently represents individual and corporate clients before trial and appellate courts in civil rights cases, business disputes, and other civil litigation as a Partner with the Potomac Law Group, PLLC and the Principal at Rock Creek Law, LLC.

Ms. Khan formerly served as a Deputy Chief in the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, where she worked on state and federal appeals to advance the rights of racial minorities, women, people with disabilities, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and others. Before that, she was the Legal Director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, overseeing a nationwide litigation program to advance the interests of religious minorities and secular governance. Before joining Americans United, Ms. Khan worked at the ACLU’s National Prison Project, where she litigated class actions to improve prison and jail conditions around the county. Earlier in her career, she was an associate at Covington & Burling and litigated domestic violence cases for the D.C. Office of the Corporation Counsel.

Ms. Khan received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and her Juris Doctor from the University of California at Berkeley. Following law school, she clerked for the Honorable Charles Legge on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
