Hon. John W. Lui

Hon. John W. Lui is an Administrative Law Judge with the District of Columbia Office of Administrative Hearings, where he currently presides over cases involving unemployment insurance, public benefits, and civil infractions, and primarily mediates rental housing cases. Judge Lui is also a Reserve Officer in the United States Coast Guard, serving as a Judge Advocate General and a recipient of the Lieutenant Junior Grade Richard Lin Leadership Award. He is a mentor with the Asian Pacific American Bar Association Educational Fund. He is also a regular volunteer with the Capital Area Food Bank and So Others Might Eat.

Judge Lui previously worked for the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia. As an Assistant Attorney General, he represented numerous local government agencies and litigated cases in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia and various administrative tribunals.

Judge Lui received his Bachelor of Arts degree and Master of Public Policy from American University. Following his undergraduate studies, he served as a youth development volunteer in the United States Peace Corps in Morocco. Judge Lui received his Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from the University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law (UDC Law). At UDC Law, he served as a student attorney in the Housing and Consumer Law Clinic and the General Practice Clinic, providing over 800 hours of pro bono legal service. He is also an adjunct professor at UDC Law with the Academic Success Program.
