Hon. Lloyd U. Nolan, Jr. is a Magistrate Judge on the Superior Court of the District of Columbia (Superior Court), serving as Presiding Magistrate Judge. In this role, he has direct responsibility for the magistrate judges, traffic citations, and preliminary hearing calendars. In addition, Judge Nolan provides coverage when needed in all divisions of the Superior Court and serves on multiple committees within the court. Since joining the Superior Court in 2010, he has served in every court division except probate.
Before joining the court, Judge Nolan served at the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia, where he spent 11 years doing trial work at all levels, from juvenile matters to adult Felony I cases. He also worked in the appellate division.
Judge Nolan received his Bachelor of Arts degree from American International College and Juris Doctor from the George Washington University School of Law. After law school, Judge Nolan clerked for the Honorable Russell F. Canan on the Superior Court.
