Magdalena Acevedo, Esq., currently serves as an Attorney-Advisor to the Military Justice Review Panel (MJRP), an independent panel established by the U.S. Department of Defense, where she reviews the implementation and effectiveness of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
Before joining the MJRP, Ms. Acevedo served as an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) with the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia. She also served as an active-duty Army Judge Advocate. In 2003, Ms. Acevedo deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, where she provided legal advice and managed criminal justice matters for the unit's 37,000 soldiers. She also traveled throughout the country to meet with judges and help reestablish the rule of law. Her military awards and commendations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal.
Ms. Acevedo received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University and her Juris Doctor from Indiana University School of Law-Bloomington.
