Hon. Ebony Michelle Scott

Hon. Ebony Michelle Scott was nominated by President Biden to serve as an Associate Judge on the Superior Court of the District of Columbia (Superior Court) in September 2021 and confirmed by the Senate in February 2022. Previously, Judge Scott was appointed as a Magistrate Judge in January 2020.  
 
Before joining the Superior Court, Judge Scott was a trial attorney at the law firm of Chaikin, Sherman, Cammarata & Siegel, P.C. She was also an Assistant Attorney General in the Housing and Community Justice Section (formerly the Neighborhood and Victim Services Section) at the Office of the Attorney General. She served as General Counsel in the Legal Division of the Office of Human Rights, overseeing the day-to-day operations and managing the resolution of discrimination complaints filed at the agency. Further, Judge Scott served as Deputy Director of the Mayor’s Office of Legal Counsel, where she assisted the Director in supervising all agency counsel reporting to the Mayor and provided legal advice to the Mayor, agency Directors, and Deputy Mayors. 
 
Judge Scott has always been committed to public service. She currently serves on the Abramson Scholarship Foundation’s Advisory Council and previously served as a mentor. She is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor at American University Washington College of Law. In 2023, Judge Scott received the Joseph H. Hairston Award from WCL for her distinguished public service.    
 
Judge Scott earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Rochester and her Juris Doctor from American University Washington College of Law. After law school, Judge Scott clerked for the Honorable Anna Blackburne-Rigsby on the District of Columbia Court of Appeals.
