Michael L. Shenkman, Esq

Michael L. Shenkman, Esq., is the Deputy Counselor to the Chief Justice at the Supreme Court of the United States, where he is also the Administrative Director of the Supreme Court Fellows Program. He served as a Supreme Court Fellow in the Counselor’s Office in 2013-14.

Previously, Mr. Shenkman was Senior Counsel in the Office of Legal Policy of the U.S. Department of Justice. He was a law clerk to Judge Robert L. Wilkins of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit and to Judge Kenneth M. Karas of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. He was a Legislative Fellow with the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee in 2008 and served as Research Director to U.S. Representative Robert T. Matsui from 2001 to 2003.

Mr. Shenkman is an adjunct professor of law at Georgetown University Law Center. From 2010 to 2013, he was a Fellow and Lecturer-in-Law at Columbia Law School, where he designed the school’s federal government externship program in Washington, D.C., and taught the accompanying courses. He also has taught political science at Yale College and the University of California Washington Center.

Mr. Shenkman holds an A.B., magna cum laude, in History from Harvard College and a J.D. from Columbia Law School.
