Alexis Morgan Gardner, Esq., serves as Federal Defender Detailee Counsel to the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary, where she provides legal analysis and support to the Ranking Member. In her prior role as an Assistant Federal Public Defender in the District of Columbia, she represented individuals charged with federal offenses at all stages of litigation. She previously served in the same role in the Northern District of Oklahoma, where she handled a wide range of federal criminal matters, conducted jury trials, and developed substantial experience in motion practice and sentencing advocacy.
Ms. Gardner began her legal career with the Bronx Defenders and relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to help establish Still She Rises, a public defender's office dedicated to representing women. After helping build that office, she founded Gardner Law Firm, where she maintained a broad trial practice that included serious felony, juvenile, family, and civil matters, and accepted court appointments.
In addition to her professional public service, she volunteers as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for children in the District of Columbia and as a commissioner on the District of Columbia Commission on Human Rights, where she adjudicates complaints under the D.C. Human Rights Act. She also mentors students through Spark the Journey and has taught legal courses at the University of Tulsa College of Law.
Ms. Gardner received her Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from California State University, Los Angeles, her Juris Doctor from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Law, and holds dual master's degrees.
