Sharon K. Donovan, Esq., currently serves as Deputy Chief in the Homicide Section of the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia (USAO DC). There, she has prosecuted domestic violence and a range of felony sex offenses involving adult and child survivors. Ms. Donovan is an expert in the use of forensic evidence, including DNA, latent fingerprints, firearms, and toolmark examinations. She regularly trains and assists other prosecutors in using such evidence and responds to admissibility challenges in cases throughout the USAO DC Superior Court Division.
Ms. Donovan has received multiple awards for her work, including the John Evans & Victor Caputy Award for Outstanding Advocacy, the United States Attorney’s Award for Exceptional Performance as an Assistant United States Attorney (2013), Excellence in Management (2016), and the Metropolitan Police Department’s Medal of Merit (2010).
Before joining the USAO-DC, she was a Trial Attorney with the United States Department of Transportation, enforcing disability, discrimination, and consumer regulations against airlines.
Ms. Donovan received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Virginia and her Juris Doctor from George Mason University School of Law. Following law school, she clerked for the Honorable Michael M. Mihm on the United States District Court for the Central District of Illinois.
