Commission Announces New Commission Member

Ronald Flagg was appointed by the District of Columbia Bar to the District of Columbia Judicial Nomination Commission on January 2, 2014. Mr. Flagg serves as the Vice President for Legal Affairs, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for the Legal Services Corporation. He has held that position since June 3, 2013. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Flagg practiced commercial and administrative litigation at Sidley Austin LLP for 31 years, 27 years as a partner. He also chaired the firm's Committee on Pro Bono and Public Interest Law for more than a decade.

Mr. Flagg served as President of the District of Columbia Bar in 2010-2011 and on the Bar's Board of Governors in 2007-2009. He currently chairs the board of the National Veterans Legal Services Program. He has also served as chair of the District of Columbia Bar Pro Bono Committee, chair of the Governing Board of the AARP Legal Counsel for the Elderly, as a member of the American Bar Association's House of Delegates, on LSC's Pro Bono Task Force, and as a member of the board of the Washington Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs. Mr. Flagg received his AB with Honors from the University of Chicago and his JD, cum laude, from the Harvard Law School. After law school, he served as a law clerk for Judge Myron L. Gordon, United States District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin

Mr. Flagg replaces Karl A. Racine, a partner at Venable LLP, and who was appointed by the District of Columbia Bar.
