Members of the bench, bar, and public are hereby notified by the District of Columbia Judicial Nomination Commission (the “Commission”) that a vacancy on the Superior Court of the District of Columbia will occur as a result of the retirement of the Honorable Robert E. Morin, effective September 30, 2020. The Commission invites qualified individuals to apply for this vacancy by 12:00 p.m. on Monday, September 14, 2020. See D.C. Code §§ 1-204.31, 1-204.33. Application materials, including instructions, are available on the Commission’s website: www.jnc.dc.gov.
All persons interested in applying for this judicial vacancy shall review and comply with the application instructions on the Commission’s website. Application materials may be submitted by hard copy, or they may be submitted electronically by using a secure portal, available on the Commission’s website at: www.jnc.dc.gov. Because the Commission’s office is primarily operating remotely due to the coronavirus pandemic, electronic submission is highly encouraged to ensure that application materials are timely received. While the Commission’s staff will be able to confirm receipt of application materials, electronic submission will facilitate its ability to promptly notify applicants of any materials that are missing or otherwise incomplete.
If submitting materials by hard copy, applicants shall submit both an original and a paper copy of their complete application materials to the Commission. All hard copy application materials and correspondence shall be addressed to: Judicial Nomination Commission, 515 Fifth Street, NW, Suite 235, Washington, DC 20001. Do not email application materials to the Commission or individual Commission members.
All application materials must be received no later than 12:00 p.m. on September 14, 2020. Please note that the JNC Form 21, Applicant Questionnaire and IRS Form 14767 were recently revised. All applications must be submitted using the July 2020 JNC Form 21. Late, incomplete, or outdated application materials will not be considered.
In May 2020, the Commission provided notice of amendments to its application requirements due to COVID-19. These amendments remain in effect and can be found in the JNC Form 20 Application Instructions.
The Commission does not require letters of recommendation, letters of support, or endorsements, but it will accept them. Such letters must be received by the Commission no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2020.
